mischief5 I could not have done this without her. The story is a homage to the old-school sci-fi of the '50s and '60s, and is very loosely based on one of my favorite stories, "The Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury.
Summary: The banging at his door woke him immediately. He threw off the covers as he became more aware and stumbled out of the bed, heart racing and chest aflame at the sudden intrusion of his sleep. Just as he reached the bedroom door, he heard a crash and heavy footsteps coming toward the hallway. Jesus, surely they hadn't started home invasions again. Yes, I know I said no more fics, but I couldn't stop this one. It's the result of just one of my reactions to "Tracker," which I have to admit I'm terribly conflicted about. I wrote my thoughts down yesterday, but with my already gloomy mood, thought better of posting. Once I get my feelings and emotions in a more cohesive place, perhaps I'll post it. Notes: I wanted to evoke the feeling of the old film noir, 40s style detective novels, so the fic is written in first person narration. Now I know that's not everyone's cup of tea, but do give it a chance. It really lends to the tone of the fic and as Dorie said, you get a few tidbits and asides you'd never get with third person. Now the science? I did research a few things, but just remember, it's the paranormal! Also, there's an almost farcical air to the fic, and that's to remind us not to take it too seriously, although there is another whole layer to the story that begs to differ. Cryptic enough? Good. Go read and enjoy!
Summary: I turn to the dead guy on the slab, the guy with the top of his head sliced away. It's weird and kind of surreal – kind of looks like that stuff you see in the supermarket, sweetbreads, only like a real stomach-turning shade of grayish blue. Thankfully, Rodney's voice draws my attention back into the conversation. He's clearly excited about whatever he thinks this is.

This is the result of a poll
melagan posted a few weeks ago, the gist of which was : How would John react to everyone but him touching Rodney? They're offworld. The natives find McKay very, very "touchable". They find excuses to touch his arm, shoulders, hair, brush against his thigh and the very bold covertly touch his ass.
My answer was: "John is jealous because Rodney looks so comfortable with touch, unlike yours truly. He's only keeping an eye on things just in case it gets out of hand. Really." Comment porn ensued and I kind of dressed it up a bit, fixed some typos and submit it here for a little Sunday afternoon enjoyment. So, enjoy!
