pimping and a poll

You have until Tuesday to read and vote at [info]mcshep_match. If the number of comments means anything... Team Peace just might be ahead (oh noes)! We can't let that happen. The reveal and Master List will go up on the 29th as well (then you'll all know which story is mine), but you still have until then to make your guesses as to the authors/artists if you want. There are prizes involved for the most correct guesses - see this for all the details. So, if you've got a little free time and you want to read some seriously fantastic fic (and there are 5 entries of awesome art), go take a look and please, please, please vote for TEAM WAR!

Next up, I realize another challenge is the last thing I need to be thinking about... but it's the Small Fandom Big Bang!! The link takes you to the site where you can find all the info. Even if I don't sign up... doesn't mean you shouldn't. Being Human, Castle, Chronicles of Riddick, Eureka, Primeval, Psych and Pushing Daisies are just a few of the fandoms to choose from. And while there are some great prompts... you can write your own as well. The word count requirement is only 20,000 - an attainable goal for me since I've just finished one over that. I'm thinking of writing Hewligan myself - have a little Brendan/Emmett plot bunny that should fit the bill nicely. Gee, have I talked myself into this yet? Hmmm, maybe a poll to see who's with me on this...

Poll #1463165

(And just what is this "detect" instead of preview? Is this permanent? It has the same function so why change the name... has someone at LJ put Ford in charge of naming things?) ETA: Huh... the preview button is back now...I swear it said Detect before... weird!

Ficlet: Waiting (G) McShep

Written for the Unspoken challenge over at [info]mcsheplets

Title: Waiting
Rating: G
Characters: Rodney, John, Jeannie
Words: ~450
Spoilers: none
Notes: May mirror recent RL events
Summary: "Every one of these people are… sick."
McShep - Always
Written for the #26 Challenge - Last over at [info]mcsheplets

Title: The Last Word (when you see with my eyes)
Author:  [info]neevebrody
Characters: John, Rodney, Jennifer
Rating: G
Words: ~3,000
Spoilers: This does run along a theme of the The Shrine, but I can't really call it spoilery for that episode, but possible spoilers for Last Man.
Beta:  [info]velocitygrass beta'd this even though she doesn't usually read this type of fic. Your thoughts and approval really meant a lot to me, hon, thank you so very much.
AN/Warnings: Believe it or not, I had this story in mind for a while before The Shrine. It's loosely based on the film, The Final Cut, with Robin Williams. Character death is mentioned but the death does not occur in the fic. I feel I also have to warn there is mention of Rodney and Jennifer and marriage. It's also angsty and hurty, but still full of McShep love. I realize I've just talked everyone out of reading it… but I hope you'll give it a chance.
Summary: He's already late, yet he sits, kneading the steering wheel. John Sheppard, big hero. He's faced countless enemies, but none as formidable as his own fears and insecurities.

I should have been doing Big Bang beta duties this evening, but was lured by [info]darsynia's First Line Meme. I picked this prompt:

Remus didn't like sitting alone in the room, but Sirius was still asleep, and while he could tell himself that he hadn't sought to wake him because he needed his rest, the real reason was that Padfoot could be a right bastard when he didn't wake naturally.

I suppose I could have chosen a McShep one, but what would have been challenging about that? Behind the cut, to be kind and because most of my flist may not be interested in a Remus/Sirius story.

Challenge:  #10 - "Reversed"
Pairing:  McKay/Sheppard
Rating:  NC-17
Warnings/Spoilers:  AMTDI, some angst, no spoilers
Word Count: 6,800
Notes:  I have to first thank [info]berlinghoff79  for a truly awesome piece of art as my prompt.  Her original art was such an inspiration.  Next my lovely and hard-working betas: [info]girly_curl_3 and [info]ozsaur, who went out of her way today in our marathon beta-chat!  Woo Hoo, what fun!  Seriously, this story is what it is because of their wonderful suggestions and hand-holding - some of which I ignored, so all mistakes belong to me.
Summary:  McKay's eye grew wide.  "Literally, naked?" he asked.  "You mean symbolic nudity, right?  Like, you know—body stockings?  Interpretive dance?"

Written for the Team Teyla AU Fest at [info]team_sga. Fic for April 30th

Title:  Dreams Beneath Our Feet
Rating:  G (just a couple of swears)
Word Count: 9,500
Pairing:  This is Team, but has a bit of a McShep bent
Prompt:[info]friendshipper's Pirates. Yarrrr! She wrote a series of five ways they weren't pirates awhile back -- space pirates, buccaneers on the high seas, sky pirates, etc. If anyone wants to run with one of these ideas.  I took the first one "Ronon Dex, Space Pirate."  You don't have to read it first, but I would recommend it for background. (and what lovely inspiration it was, too)
Warnings:  None really.  Gen, pre-slash.
Notes: Smashing beta by [info]quasar273 - really above and beyond the call.  Due to time constraints I did a lot after her beta, so if you find mistakes, they're all mine. The title comes from W. B. Yeats' He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven.  Also many thanks to [info]friendshipper for a wonderful fic to work from.
Summary:  "Yes, and how many of those friends would sell their own grandmother for what the Genii will be offering for our capture?  Hmm?  You know as well as I, soon enough every bounty hunter in three galaxies will be looking for us."  His face grew hot and sweat prickled the back of his neck.  He held up his hand.  "And don't forget about these.  We're marked.  It would only be a matter of time.  And then what-do you think their little fun and games will be enough to keep them occupied?"  His voice grew louder.  "I did not escape Hell to be thrown back into it.

Pairing:  McKay/Sheppard
Rating:  NC-17
Acknowledgments: Thanks to[info]velocitygrass for the quick beta, but I changed the end, so any remaining mistakes are mine alone.

Beta:  Unbeta'd
Summary:  Humor and sex - what's not to love.  "I get you, Rodney.  I see all those things and I still like you."

Warning:  For language, wherein Rodney curses like the proverbial sailor, for I've found that a profane Rodney McKay is a hot Rodney McKay.
AN:  The ending of this story was inspired by a chat with [info]melagan  It was something she wanted to see and I find it very hard to deny her.

2007 mini_nanowrimo Final Recap

  • Dec. 2nd, 2007 at 2:23 PM
mcshep_pink

I MADE IT!  I survived [info]mini_nanowrimo, barely.  I am quite pleased to say that I wrote every day, and as my project was to write a fic, ficlet or drabble daily, that worked out quite nice.  So I should say I conceived, wrote, edited and posted every day.  All of the offerings are SGA episode related, McShep centric, and revolve around their burgeoning relationship.  I've dubbed the entire series "Moments in Time - Days in the Lives."  [info]mischief5 commented that it had been a rollercoaster ride and I believe that is a most apt description - of both my "wrimo" experience and of John and Rodney's relationship.

This post contains links to all 30 stories.  I am very proud to have survived the month.  Not only did I meet and exceed my goal of writing 100 words a day for 30 days, I met and exceeded my personal writing goal of 30,000 words for the month (set upon me by something deep in my psyche, or my muse, and trust me, you don't want to know too much about either one).  This project also gave me the opportunity to experiment with the drabble and confining myself to set word counts.  That was quite a challenge as well.  Other than this project, I worked on various McShep WIPs, and hopefully you will be seeing the fruits of that labor soon.

To all of you who took "the ride," and everyone at [info]words_count, there aren't enough words to express my gratitude for your comments, feedback and encouragement.  I could not have completed the project without it!  Would I do this again, you ask?  You bet'cha!

Words for McShep project:  24,960       Total words for November:   39,612

This is the final day for [info]mini_nanowrimo and Day 30's offering is special.  Today's episodes are: Travelers, Tabula Rasa, Missing and The Seer.  Yep, I used them all.  Very ambitious of me, I know, and I hope I have not disappointed.

To those of you who've read along with this project, thank you. *blows kisses*  Your kind words and encouragement literally got me through this.  I think I told someone this was a labor of love, not to mention blood, sweat, tears and a lot of hair-pulling, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  I will most likely make one final post with my totals and links to all the fics in on spot.  But for now:

mini_nanowrimo Days 26 - 30

mcshep_pink
Well, I had to start a new post because Day 26 was too large to add to the others.  So, First Strike, Adrift/Lifeline and Doppleganger and a surprise ending, left to go.  This will be days 26 -30.  I will also be posting daily at [info]mcsheplets.  Thanks to all  who are following this little endeavor, we're in the home stretch now.

Blanket Disclaimer:  I own nothing and I think it's safe to say that there are spoilers for the episodes mentioned.

mcshep_pink
Wow, week 3 blew by!  I can't believe this is week 4, and the last week, of  [info]mini_nanowrimo, but it is.  Only 9 more days to finish out the project.  As you know, I'm taking an episode of SGA each day and writing a series of drabbles, ficlets, or whatever I can come up with, through the McShep lens.  The focus has shifted to the theme of the developing relationship of John and Rodney and I think when you take them 1-30, that progression is evident.  As a tease, the remaining episodes will be Echoes, Tao of Rodney, Irresponsible, The Game, Sunday, Submersion, First Strike, Adrift/Lifeline and Doppleganger.

Today begins my post for week 4 - days 22 - 30.  Again, not to clutter up your flist, I will add to this post daily and will post a recap at the end of the week.   I will also be posting daily at [info]mcsheplets.  Thanks to all  who are following this little endeavor - feedback is always appreciated.

Blanket Disclaimer:  I own nothing and I think it's safe to say that there are spoilers for the episodes mentioned.

Day 22: Echoes - An Urgent Plan )Day 23: Tao of Rodney - The Tao of Love )Day 24: The Game - Hackers )Day 25: Sunday - Death and Lives After Death )
